Your customers look at WhatsApp at eight in the evening. At eight in the evening you are closing the shop, cooking dinner or putting the children to bed. If you post when you happen to be free, your Status may not be up when your audience looks, and after 24 hours it is gone.
This guide explains how to schedule WhatsApp Status updates on Android, so that a Status goes up at the hour you choose, once or on a repeat. It’s written by the SKEDit team, so it covers the exact steps in the app, the limits WhatsApp sets on Status, and the phone settings that decide whether the post goes out.
Quick answer: WhatsApp has no built-in way to schedule a Status, and the message scheduler it is testing in beta covers chats, not Status. On Android you can schedule one with SKEDit: choose WhatsApp, set the schedule type to Status, add your text, photo or video, pick the date and time, and save. Status scheduling is part of SKEDit’s Pro and Max plans, and your phone must be on and online at the scheduled time.
Can you schedule a WhatsApp Status without an app?
No. Here is what WhatsApp offers on its own as of October 2026.
WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business. You can post a Status with text, photos, videos or a voice note, and it disappears after 24 hours. WhatsApp’s help page for Status describes no option to post one later, in either app.
WhatsApp’s new scheduled messages. WhatsApp is testing a scheduler for chat messages. WABetaInfo reported on 12 October 2026 that it is available to some Android beta testers, for messages in individual and group chats, from 10 minutes to two weeks ahead. The report does not mention Status. If all you want is to send a chat message later, that feature will be enough once it reaches your phone, and our guide to scheduling WhatsApp messages on Android covers the options. For a Status, you need a scheduler app.
How WhatsApp Status scheduling works on Android
SKEDit doesn’t post from a server. At the time you set, it opens WhatsApp on your phone and posts the Status for you, using Android’s accessibility service. Three things follow from that:
- The Status comes from your own WhatsApp. Viewers see a normal Status from you. Who can see it is decided by your Status privacy settings in WhatsApp, as with any Status.
- Your phone has to be on and online at the scheduled time. If it’s switched off or has no connection, the Status can’t be posted.
- Phone settings matter. Battery savers and screen locks can stop the app at the moment it needs to act. The checklist further down covers them.
What you need before you start
- An Android phone running Android 8.0 or later. SKEDit has no iPhone app.
- WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business, installed and set up on the same phone.
- SKEDit, installed from Google Play.
- A Pro or Max plan. Scheduling messages to chats is available on the Free plan, but the Status schedule type needs Pro or Max. Prices are on the plans page.
How to schedule WhatsApp Status with SKEDit
The steps are the same for WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business. The first setup takes a few minutes. After that, scheduling a Status takes about as long as posting one.
- Install SKEDit and sign in. Download it from Google Play and create an account.
- Tap the + button and choose WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business. This opens the scheduling screen.
- Clear the red warning triangle. Tap the triangle at the top of the scheduling screen and switch on each setting it lists, such as Accessibility. A Status scheduled before this is done can fail.
- Set the schedule type to Status. Tap the Schedule Type menu at the top of the screen and choose Status.
- Add your content. Type your text in the Message field. Tap the attachment icon below it to add photos or videos.
- Set the date and time. Scroll to the Schedule section and choose when the Status should go up.
- Save. Scroll back to the top and tap the check mark. The Status joins your scheduled items, where you can edit or cancel it before it posts.
SKEDit’s help centre shows each screen in How to schedule a WhatsApp Status message.
Repeat a Status every day or every week
A Status lasts 24 hours, so anything you want people to see every day has to be posted again every day. Set a repeat when you choose the date and time, and SKEDit posts it again on that schedule. A daily repeat suits opening hours or a dish of the day. A weekly repeat suits a Friday offer or a Monday class timetable. The repeat keeps running until you edit or delete the schedule.
Limits to know before you schedule
- Videos: 90 seconds. WhatsApp allows Status videos of up to 90 seconds. Trim longer clips before you schedule them.
- 24 hours. WhatsApp removes each Status after 24 hours. Scheduling doesn’t change that.
- Several attachments. If one scheduled Status carries many photos or videos, open SKEDit’s settings and set Sending speed to Slowest or Slowest+ for more reliable posting.
- One thing at a time. Don’t schedule a Status and a message for the same minute. Leave 3 to 5 minutes between scheduled items.
- Your audience. A scheduled Status reaches the same audience as one you post by hand. Check your Status privacy settings in WhatsApp once.
Make sure the Status posts on time
Run through this list once after installing SKEDit, and again after a major Android update.
- Phone on, internet on. A phone that is off, restarting or offline can’t post.
- Battery optimisation off for SKEDit. Many phones stop background apps to save power. On brands that have an auto-start setting, such as Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO, turn that on for SKEDit too. The setup guide by brand shows where each setting lives.
- Accessibility still switched on. Some phones turn accessibility services off on their own. If a repeating Status stops posting, check this first.
- A screen lock SKEDit can open. Your phone can stay locked if you save its PIN or password in SKEDit. Smart Lock, which stays active for 4 hours at a time, or no screen lock also work. A pattern lock does not. The options are explained in Managing Screen Lock.
- Check the log if something fails. Open the 3-dot menu on the scheduled item and tap Sending Logs to see the reason. The not sending checklist explains each one.

Schedule your first WhatsApp Status
A Status only works if it is up when people look. Set SKEDit up once, clear the warning triangle, check your battery and screen lock settings, and your Status should go up at the hour you chose, including on the days when you are busy.
Schedule your first WhatsApp Status. Download SKEDit on Google Play. Status scheduling is part of the Pro and Max plans, and Max also has no limit on scheduled messages (compare plans).
Frequently asked questions
Can we schedule WhatsApp Status?
Not inside WhatsApp itself. WhatsApp has no option to post a Status later, and the scheduled messages feature it is testing in beta covers chats. On Android, a scheduler app such as SKEDit can post a Status for you at a set time.
Does WhatsApp Business let you schedule a Status?
No. WhatsApp’s help pages describe no option to schedule a Status in either app. The WhatsApp Business app can schedule away messages, which are automatic replies, not Status posts. SKEDit works with both WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business.
Is scheduling a WhatsApp Status free?
Scheduling messages to chats is available on SKEDit’s Free plan, with up to 5 waiting at a time. The Status schedule type needs Pro or Max. Plans and limits are listed on the SKEDit facts page.
Does my phone need to be on to post a scheduled Status?
Yes. SKEDit posts from your phone through WhatsApp, so the phone must be on and connected to the internet at the scheduled time. It can stay locked if you save your PIN or password in SKEDit.
Can I post the same Status every day?
Yes. Set a daily repeat when you choose the date and time. WhatsApp removes each Status after 24 hours, so a daily repeat puts a fresh one up each day.
How long can a scheduled Status video be?
Up to 90 seconds, which is WhatsApp’s own limit for Status videos. Trim longer videos before you schedule them.
